What’s the number one way to detox your body? Drink water.
Not just for detox
Your body needs water to work the way it should. Your muscles, joints and organs all need it. You immune system relies on it to fight germs. Your skin needs it. And you know if you’re trying to lose weight, drinking water helps. Many of us find it hard to drink enough water. Want to increase your water intake? Check out our ten tips.
Add a twist of lemon
Not only taking the boredom out of drinking water, lemons are packed with antioxidants like Vitamin C.
Eat Your Water
Consume foods with high water content. These vegetables contain 79-92% water: white potatoes, carrots, green peas, eggplant, red cabbage, spinach and cauliflower. Other foods high in water include tomatoes, watermelon, cucumbers and zucchini.
It’ s Okay to Eat Salty – sometimes: Try a snack of lightly salted popcorn or walnuts. You’ll be sure to reach for a glass of water. Both foods contain fiber and protein. Walnuts are great sources of vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, both heart healthy. And popcorn is naturally fat free – skip adding butter.
Take Water On-The-Go
If you have water nearby, you’ll drink it. Indulge in a fun container to refill throughout your day.
Drink Water When You’re Thirsty
If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Drink water. Pay attention to the color of your urine. If it is deep yellow, you need more water. Set a goal to see very light yellow urine.
Include Soup in Your Diet
Did you know that soup is mostly water? Include a bowl daily to increase your water intake.
Eat Spicy Foods
Eat foods loaded with spices that make you sweat, like Indian food. You have to drink water to “put out the fire.” Warning: watch out for spicy food high in calories and fat like some Mexican food dishes.
Coffee and Tea
Coffee and tea do contain caffeine but also lots of water. A couple of cups a day adds to your water intake and takes the boredom out of drinking water.
Add carbonated water to the mix. It’s okay to add the flavor, but don’t add the sugar.
Lose Weight Too! with Water Before Meals
Start a new habit. Drink a tall glass of water 30 minutes before sitting down to each meal. Not only good for your body, studies show that people doing this eat 85 fewer calories per meal leading to a 5 pound weight loss over 12 weeks.
