Sculpt Away Insider’s Guide: Daily Changes to Create your Ideal Body

Sculptlet #1     Burn Calories with a Weight Loss Bath

Don’t feel guilty about switching your daily walk or trip to the gym for a hot bath.  You read it right! New research shows that sitting in a hot bath (104 degrees Fahrenheit to be exact) for one hour burns as many calories as a 30 minute brisk walk.

A new body of research examining “passive heating” reveals its multiple health benefits.  Looking into these benefits with a small sample study, exercise physiologist, Dr. Steve Faulkner at Loughborough University in the UK, found that participants burned as many calories simply by spending an hour in a 104 degree bath as compared to walking briskly for 30 minutes.  These study subjects burned 80% more energy (calories) by sitting in the hot bathtub. They even reduced their blood sugar levels 10% more than they did with exercising.

Fast Fact.  The field of study of “passive heating” is investigating benefits associated with multiple sources of heat, including Infrared Saunas.  We’ll discuss how you can use the Infrared Sauna to burn fat and lose weight in another Sculptlet.

Though we recommend incorporating moderate exercise into your daily routine, if you’re tight on time or just don’t have the energy for a workout, consider a hot bath to burn calories instead.  Or take a hot bath after your workout and double the fat and calorie burn. Happy soaking!

Key to Success:  Make sure to mimic the study design exactly:

maintain your water temperature at a reading of at least 104 degrees Fahrenheit for one full hour.
