- You either (a) walk; (b) jog; or (c) run one mile. Which option burns the most calories?
Answer: None. They all burn about the same number of calories.
- You choose to (a) take your time walking one mile or (b) you ‘speed walk’ one mile. Which option burns the most calories?
Answer: Neither. You will burn the same number of calories whether you take your time or speed walk.
- You walk one mile but you either (a) speed walk or (b) walk at a moderate pace. Which one burns more belly fat?
Answer: (a) speed walking.
Sorry, I know these seem to be trick questions, but there is a difference in burning calories and burning fat. Studies have shown that women who walked the same distance 5 times a week all burned the same number of calories. But the women who chose to ‘speed walk’ at least 3 of the 5 days dropped significantly more inches than the women who walked at a moderate pace on all 5 days. We’re talking an awesome amount of inch loss! Those speed walkers lost more than 2 inches from their waistlines, shed about 3 times more fat from their thighs (than the moderate paced walkers) and lost weight, as much as 8 pounds – all without dieting.
Make the science work for you. Walk 5 days each week. Plan shorter, faster walks at least 3 times a week. You can take it easier with a moderately paced walk the other 2 days. In just a short while you could lose a dress size or two.
